What is modern art?

Modern art was a set of artistic expressions, originating in Europe, in the mid-19th and 20th centuries. Tired of traditional art forms, modernist artists came together to transform and bring new visions to society at the time.

The effervescence of the time, marked by industrialization, new technologies and wars, made modernists find a new way of expressing themselves, in the face of the standard aesthetics of the period.

Art has expanded to the most varied forms of expression, such as sculpture, painting, architecture, music, literature and photography. The main artistic expressions of the modern art movement were fauvism, abstractionism, cubism, futurism, surrealism, dadaism, concretism.
