Matadero Madrid celebrates Art Week with a special programme and the UVNT Art Fair
Exhibitions, films, performances and meetings about contemporary art

From 25 February to 9 March, Matadero Madrid becomes the centre of contemporary art with a special programme. During these days, there will be exhibitions, films, conferences and performances. In addition, the 9th edition of UVNT Art Fair will bring the latest trends in art to Madrid.

This event coincides with the 44th edition of ARCOmadrid, consolidating the capital as a cultural reference. Through activities open to the public, the aim is to bring contemporary art closer to Madrid residents and visitors.
Open days at the Centre for artistic residencies

The Centre for artistic residencies will open its doors on 6 and 9 March. During these days, residents will share their projects with the public.

On Thursday, March 6, they will open their studios from 11:00 to 14:00, while on Sunday, March 9, they will do so from 11:00 to 15:00. Artists such as Aldo Urbano, Amaya Hernández, Álvaro Chior and Christian Lagata will participate. Collectives such as Debajo del Sombrero and XenoVisual Studies (XVS) will also be present.
Performance: From matadero to nursery

On Friday, March 7 at 17:00, the artist Fernando Sánchez Castillo will perform the performance From matadero to nursery. In this tour, the public will explore the 100 years of history of the building.

Free invitations will be available one hour before the activity at the Matadero Madrid Information Point.
II Vivaces Meeting: art and independent spaces

The Intermediae program organizes the second edition of the Vivaces meeting together with the Platform of Independent Spaces of Contemporary Creation.

From 25 to 27 February, more than 25 national and international experts will discuss art in independent spaces. They will also deal with topics such as artistic self-organisation and non-profit art financing.

Speakers will include Guillermo Rodríguez (Culture Action Europe), Annette Maechtel (nGbK) and Hajnalka Somogyi (Off-Biennale Budapest).
Cineteca Madrid: Contemporary Video Artists and The Imaginary Museum

Cineteca Madrid presents the cycle Contemporary Video Artists, from 4 to 9 March. Works by:

Sally Gutiérrez (Ta Acorda Ba Tu El Filipinas?).
Virginia García del Pino (El jurado).
Susana de Sousa Dias (Fordlandia Malaise).
Núria Güell (De putas. Un ensayo sobre la masculinidad).

In addition, during March, the cycle The Imaginary Museum will explore the relationship between cinema and museums. Among the scheduled films are National Gallery, by Frederick Wiseman, and the premiere of The Revolution of the Muses.
UVNT Art Fair: emerging art in Plaza Matadero

The UVNT Art Fair returns to Plaza Matadero with more than 40 international galleries and more than 125 artists. In this edition, ceramics will be the protagonist.

FOCO LATAM will also be the premiere, a section dedicated to Latin American art.

Within the Public Art program, the artist Lara Ruiz will present the installation CDC (Build-Deconstruct-Build). This work, created in collaboration with Molecolor, will transform Plaza Matadero with PVC structures that invite exploration.

With a varied program, Matadero Madrid reaffirms its role as a reference for contemporary art in the city.
