Museum of Sacred Art opens exhibition with stories and experiences of Ver-o-Peso

The program is part of Preamar Cabano, promoted by Secult, and can be visited until February 18th at Galeria Fidanza, at MAS

Regional stories, experiences and works are the result of popular culture. This Saturday morning (20), the Museum of Sacred Art (MAS), in Belém, opened the exhibition "Belém: Um Ver-o-Peso de Memórias", which can be visited until February 18. The initiative is part of the Preamar Cabano program, promoted by the State Department of Culture (Secult).

The exhibition opened at 9 am, at Galeria Fidanza, at MAS, and brings together different artistic languages, mostly composed of audiovisuals, which show Ver-o-Peso over the decades, with footage of the fair from 1930 to the present day. current. In addition to the collection of multimedia images safeguarded by Secult, the public will see the Ford Motor Company collection, from the National Archives Museum (Washington, DC).

reviewed the initiative as "the real Belém", which highlights workers who leave their homes, many from other municipalities in the Metropolitan Region, to work at Ver-o-Peso. "The importance (of the exhibition) is to value exactly these people who constitute, move and supply Belém every day", he highlighted.

Historical source - Knowing the routine of Belém through memories photographed throughout history also stimulates critical awareness. The public's relationship with Ver-o-Peso, as citizens, and observing regional culture as part of an exhibition that enters the museums, is very important, added History student, Beatriz Souza, 20 years old.

"Treating photography as a historical source of what happened in the past, and correlating it to our present, is an interesting way of seeing time in continuous (movement). It is very important to look at Ver-o-Peso as a place of workers who live different stories", said the university student.

The videos, images, objects, utensils and scent baths reflect what Ver-o-Peso is and are part of this series of artifacts that produce the unison and memorable context of the largest open fair in Latin America.

Memory and nostalgia - The objective is to convey the feeling and nostalgia of Ver-O-Peso through symbolic and visual icons, said Tamyris Monteiro, director of the Museu do Estado do Pará (MEP) and member of the exhibition's curatorship. "We were able to understand over time how people relate to the memory of Ver-o-Peso, as an image and representation of Pará identity.
The construction of the exhibition is significant due to the originality of the elements that represent the Ver-o-Peso fair as a place of culture and ancestry in Pará, added the director of the Integrated System of Museums and Memorials (SIMM), Armando Sobral. "It is also a place with a great creative reserve, part of the culture of Pará, its knowledge and its activities", he emphasized.
