The Buenos Aires planetarium pays tribute to Gyula Kosice with a multimedia show
“Intergalactic Journey”, an experience inspired by the work of the Slovak artist naturalized Argentine, will premiere on Friday 24th at the Dome of the Buenos Aires astronomical outreach center
The Galileo Galilei Planetarium of the City of Buenos Aires is preparing to offer a unique experience that combines art, science and technology. According to the organization, the upcoming premiere of Intergalactic Journey: The Hydrospatial City of Gyula Kosice will allow the public to immerse themselves in the creative universe of the renowned Argentine artist through an audiovisual function in 360º format. This project, which brings together immersive recordings, 3D reconstructions and segments generated with artificial intelligence, seeks to reinterpret Kosice's emblematic work as it has never been presented before. This innovative production is the result of a collaboration between the Galileo Galilei Planetarium, the Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires (Malba), the production company UxArt and the Kosice Foundation. The work, suitable for all audiences, was developed by the educational teams of Malba and the Planetarium, while the audiovisual production was carried out by the technical and creative teams of UxArtLab and the Planetarium itself.
Visionary thought by Gyula Kosice

Prior to the premiere of the performance, the public will have the opportunity to delve deeper into the artist's legacy through a talk by Max Pérez Fallik, the artist's grandson. Pérez Fallik will share his personal perspective on his grandfather's work, highlighting its impact on art and science. This event will also include the presentation of the reissue of the book 500 Places to Live, written by Kosice, which complements the exploration of his futuristic vision and his focus on the relationship between humans and space.
The event not only seeks to highlight Kosice's artistic relevance, but also his ability to imagine a future where technology and creativity converge. His "hydrospatial city" project, which inspired this production, is an example of how art can be ahead of its time and raise questions about life in other environments beyond Earth.
Iconic works by Gyula Kosice

The public attending the premiere will be greeted by one of Kosice's most iconic pieces, The Drop (1982), which will be on display on the staircase leading into the hall. According to reports, at the end of the performance, attendees will be able to appreciate another outstanding work by the artist, Hydrospatial Dwellings in the Constellation of Yael (1979). This recently restored piece was part of the exhibition Gyula Kosice: Intergaláctico, which took place at the Malba between July and November 2024.
The City of Buenos Aires became the epicenter of an unprecedented tribute to the visionary artist Gyula Kosice, on the 100th anniversary of his birth in 2024. The exhibition Gyula Kosice: Intergaláctico opened on July 4 and marked the first posthumous monographic exhibition dedicated to the Argentine sculptor, painter, poet and theorist. The exhibition not only brought together some of his most emblematic pieces, but also highlighted his most ambitious work: The Hydrospatial City, a project that combines art, science and technology in a utopian vision of the future.

In parallel to the exhibition, the Malba and the Galileo Galilei Planetarium had also launched a joint educational program entitled A Minute in Space. According to the details, this free initiative began in August 2024 and was aimed at students from public primary schools in the City of Buenos Aires. The main objective was to bring children closer to Kosice's creative universe, while introducing them to scientific concepts related to space.
The program included interactive activities that allowed students to explore the artist's artistic and scientific proposals. In addition, participants had the opportunity to create science fiction video minutes, which were projected on the Planetarium dome towards the end of the year. This activity sought to foster creativity and interest in science among the youngest, using Kosice's work and his futuristic vision as inspiration.

The Hydrospatial City in Immersive Format

As part of the celebrations, Malba also expanded its collaboration with the art and technology laboratory UxArtLab and the Kosice Foundation, whose alliance enabled the realization of this special function in dome format, which presents a 360-degree immersive experience based on The Hydrospatial City, which will premiere on January 24. This event is aimed at a mass audience and offers a contemporary reinterpretation of Kosice's most iconic project, using advanced technologies to recreate his vision of a floating city in space.
The Hydrospatial City, conceived by Kosice as a futuristic utopia, represents a model of harmonious coexistence between humans and the environment. Through models, sculptures and drawings, the artist imagined a self-sufficient habitat that defied terrestrial limitations and proposed a total integration between art, science and technology. This project, which occupied a large part of his life, continues to be a source of inspiration for artists, scientists and visionaries around the world.

Intergalactic Journey: The Hydrospatial City of Gyula Kosice will have a preview, with free admission and no prior registration required (first come, first served until full capacity is reached), on Friday, January 24 at 6 p.m. Regular performances, with paid admission, will take place on Saturdays and Sundays at 7 p.m., until April 27. This show is suitable for all audiences, and is recommended for children from 8 years old.
