The exhibition 'Cao Fei: the future is not a dream', which brings the Chinese artist's art to the Pinacoteca de São Paulo, is now available.

The exhibition ‘Cao Fei: the future is not a dream’ is on display at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo. With a futuristic theme, her work addresses the rapid social changes of the 21st century, permeated by the intense use of technologies and how this impacts the human experience. It is the first time that the Chinese artist has had a solo exhibition in Latin America.

One of the great points of interest in Cao Fei's works is the technological revolution that placed her country, China, among the global leaders at the turn of the century.

One of the works on display will be ‘RMB City’ (2007). Based on experiments on the virtual platform ‘Second Life’, a game that simulates real life through the interaction of avatars, Cao Fei built a huge city with several references to real China.

Other highlights are the works ‘i.Mirror’ [i.espelho] (2007) and ‘Oz’ (2022), which show the artist’s immersion in ‘Second Life’ and the metaverse. Permeated by avatars, the artist projects imagined futures based on the relationship between man and machine.

The work ‘Rumba II: Nomad’ is also available, in which robot vacuum cleaners try futilely to clean a recently demolished space on the outskirts of Beijing. And 'The Eternal Wave', in which Fei invites the viewer to travel through time using virtual reality glasses, visiting the areas in and around the cinema that is now threatened with demolition.

About Cao Fei
The artist graduated from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, in China. Her works address the reality of her country after the Cultural Revolution, and the growing influence of the internet on the population's behavior and imagination.

Cao Fei is considered one of the most expressive artists today, having been one of the first to experiment with art made for the internet and other technologies.

His exhibition “The future is not a dream” is on display at Pinacoteca Contemporânea (Av. Tiradentes, 273) until April 14, 2024. Tickets are available via the website.
