One hundred and thirty years after his death, the Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh has become one of the greatest success stories in the history of world plastic arts. The man who sold a single painting while he was alive and who put an end to his own existence, became a world icon of the plastic arts.
Since the sensitive work of the master of Dutch impressionism was presented in an immersive way, a global phenomenon has occurred that has divided waters in the way art is consumed by the mass public and, in Brazil, it was no different. São Paulo experienced part of this phenomenon with the immersive exhibition “Beyond Van Gogh” in São Paulo, a huge success that attracted more than 380,000 visitors in just four months of the season.
Since its closure, the producers of the exhibition have received thousands of requests for the exhibition to return to São Paulo, and they decided to create an even bigger installation, with the latest technology never seen in exhibitions of its kind in Brazil or in the world. This is how “VAN GOGH LIVE 8K” was conceived, already visited by more than 1 million people since its world premiere in Rio de Janeiro, with seasons in Goiânia, Fortaleza and Recife, and is preparing to tour the world next year.
Before that, however, to meet public requests, “Van Gogh Live 8K” can be seen in São Paulo. And more: for the first time, a major art exhibition will be presented outside the traditional circuit where large exhibitions are mounted in the city: “Van Gogh Live 8K” premieres on September 15 at Shopping Lar Center, in Vila Guilherme, North Zone of city.
The VAN GOGH LIVE 8K is yet another realization of Blast Entertainment, a company of the DCSET Group.
With more than 250 works by the painter projected with the unprecedented 8K resolution in a mega space of 2800 square meters that will be set up especially in the External Parking lot of the Mall, the exhibition also brings together illustrative texts taken from his original letters and rocked by a soundtrack also specially conceived for the exhibition, with music by Debussy, Ravel, Bach, O'Halloran, Pink Floyd and Três na Bossa, among others.
Fernanda Montenegro lends her voice to Joanna Van Gogh to read the letters exchanged between the painter and his brother
The exhibition also has an illustrious guest: actress Fernanda Montenegro was the voice chosen to read illustrative texts taken from Van Gogh's original letters exchanged with his brother Theo Van Gogh, which were saved and published by Van Gogh's sister-in-law, Joanna Van Gogh -Bonger, largely responsible for the posthumous success of the Dutch master.
About Joanna, Fernanda says: “She is very important. Without this woman, we would not understand the grandeur of Van Gogh's work. I am honored to read the letters exchanged between the painter and his brother, Jo's husband. It is very important to make art reach so many people, especially in the days in which we live.”
The exposure
Using 40 projectors to create, with 480 thousand lumens (480K), more than 45 minutes of unprecedented projections with 8K resolution, never seen in exhibitions of the genre, VAN GOGH LIVE 8K has an unmatched quality and superior to HD projectors, commonly used in exhibitions of the genre, allowing Van Gogh's characteristic thick brushstrokes and vivid colors to be observed and understood in a unique way.
In addition to the huge main hall, the VAN GOGH LIVE 8K will have five more environments: a themed café-theatre, a store with specially customized products, an educational room, a field of sunflowers and an immersive anteroom, where a 3D face of the painter is formed from his self-portraits.
“It is a privilege for Brazil to have created this new world version of an immersive Van Gogh exhibition, with state-of-the-art technology and unprecedented 8K resolution in the world. Our experience with the realization of Beyond Van Gogh provided us with the technical and artistic knowledge that made it possible to create this unique experience in the world. Now, the public in São Paulo will be able to find Van Gogh again, in a unique show, before he travels to other parts of the world”, attests Rafael Reisman, from Blast Entertainment, a company of the DCSET Group.
