UVNT ART FAIR presents its ninth edition

UVNT ART FAIR presents its ninth edition

In 2024, UVNT Art Fair changed dates and location. At the same time that Art Week was established in March, the New Contemporary Art fair had a new location: a 10-meter-high tent with more than 3,000 m2 of surface area located in the heart of Matadero Plaza. “Changes are never easy, but they help us continue to evolve. We believe that, with the change to Matadero Madrid, UVNT has gained not only in space, but in the spectacular nature of the galleries' proposals, and we have felt very supported. That is why we have decided to establish ourselves here. Matadero Madrid has become our new home,” admits Sergio Sancho, director and founder of UVNT Art Fair.
The ninth edition of the fair, which will be held from March 6 to 9, 2025, will feature more than 40 galleries from all corners of the world: from Paris to Taipei, via Palma de Mallorca, and with Madrid as its central axis. More than 125 artists will exhibit their work at the fair. This year, at the initiative of the galleries, ceramics will have a greater role. “It is a technique that has always been present at the fair but which, in recent years, seems to be generating greater interest among artists and collectors. That is why we wanted to ensure that in this next edition it has an even more prominent place,” says Sancho. Almost twenty ceramists will participate in UVNT Art Fair 2025.

The fair is not only growing in the number of participating galleries. UVNT Art Fair presents a new section, FOCO LATAM, as a space for dialogue and the celebration of Latin American art. This initiative, developed in close collaboration with the curator and art critic Christian Viveros-Fauné and with the support of The Social Hub Iberia, will showcase a series of 8 projects from Latin American galleries. The participants in this first FOCO LATAM are Cerquone Gallery (Caracas/Madrid), Enlace Art (Lima), SGR Galería (Bogotá), Valerie’s Factory (Buenos Aires), NN Galería (La Plata), Isabel Croxatto Galería (Santiago de Chile), Klaus Steinmetz Arte Contemporáneo (San José) and Marchante Arte Contemporáneo (Mexico City). The Social Hub Iberia demonstrates its commitment to art and emerging talent from Latin America by becoming the official hotel of this program.

“Through this new section, we seek to reinforce our commitment to supporting independent artists and galleries, expanding their visibility and recognizing their contribution to the global art scene,” says Sergio Sancho. “Those selected reflect the cultural richness and creative diversity of their places of origin. We want FOCO LATAM to become a celebration of new contemporary Latin American art.”

Everything changes, nothing changes
Despite the arrival of this new section, UVNT Art Fair remains faithful to its DNA. Its different programs and activities have made the fair an essential event during Madrid Art Week.

The fair will once again have a Public Art Program throughout the capital. Sculptures, interventions and murals will fill some of the main streets and squares of Madrid during its Art Week. The fair will also focus on digital art, which will have a strong presence both in marquees spread throughout the city and in the fair facilities.

Once again, the Young Galleries program will help young galleries, with less than three years of experience, to make their way into the sector, offering them a space within the fair. For this ninth edition, the selected artists are Enari Gallery (Amsterdam), Espacio Derivado (Seville), Stain Projects (Palma de Mallorca) and Marchante Arte Contemporáneo (Mexico City), which also participates in FOCO LATAM.

As a faithful ally of the fair since its beginnings, Mahou will present the new Espacio Mahou, which will host the UVNT Mahou Talks and the bar area that an architecture studio designs each year. On this occasion, the proposal will be led by Enorme Studio, which, based on the concept of traditional Castilian bars, will create an almost infinite bar where conversations flow as easily as beer. In previous editions, Studio Animal (2024), Palma and NULA STUDIO (2023), Pareid Architecture (2022) or TAKK (2021) have been in charge of designing this space.
The allies
UVNT Art Fair 2025 is made possible thanks to the support of its faithful travelling companions, some of whom have been there from the beginning. This is the case of Mahou, which through the UVNT Mahou Talks space encourages other ways of approaching art from within the fair itself. With this initiative, Mahou once again demonstrates its commitment to contemporary art, connecting artists and the public, and supporting hundreds of five-star experiences related to art and culture. For the second consecutive year, Lexus will sponsor the UVNT 2025 Public Art Program, which will fill the main streets and squares of Madrid with art. Also repeating its support is Absolut, the famous Swedish vodka brand, which in the last four decades has collaborated with more than 500 artists, betting on emerging creators and anticipating new trends. The Ocean Drive Madrid (OD Hotels), which has been supporting UVNT as an official hotel for years, will once again host artists, collectors, visitors and friends of the fair during this ninth edition.

As in previous years, UVNT Art Fair will have a series of institutional partners that will sponsor the acquisition and residency prizes of this ninth edition. These supporters include Colección Kells, Colección MER, Montresso* Art Foundation, Piramidón Centre D’Art Contemporani and Colección Studiolo, which is joining the fair for the first time.

About Sergio Sancho, founder and director of UVNT Art Fair

He has made his passion his profession. Sergio Sancho (Madrid, 1978) left the world of advertising, where he was a manager, to dedicate himself to shaking up the art market. A fan and collector, he could not find the art that interested him in Spain; for example, all the currents that New Contemporary Art brings together. He created UVNT Art Fair as a response to this lack and this is what distinguishes it.
Today, the fair is an avant-garde, groundbreaking and different proposal. Linked to collecting and the world of skateboarding, the iconography of the most transgressive art awakened in Sancho a passion that, little by little, he fed with other disciplines. UVNT Art Fair began by showing works by contemporary artists whose main influences had been the streets. That was the starting point and, in eight years, Sancho has managed to position the fair as one of the essential events.

But UVNT is more than a fair. Thus, through Urvanity Projects, actions are developed throughout the year that bring art closer to society, commissioning artists to intervene in different areas of cities, organizing activities in universities and companies around New Contemporary Art, generating curated programs and giving impetus to this artistic movement consolidated as a new form of communication and expression, working with firms such as Caleido, Las Rozas Village, Iberia, Swatch, Mahou or Lexus.

In the summer of 2022, Sergio Sancho presented a new initiative, CAN, Contemporary Art Now, a new international fair in Ibiza. In the first edition it brought together 36 galleries from 13 countries. The fourth edition is already being prepared, which will be held on the Pitiusa island from June 25 to 29, 2024.
