Taiwan will be filled with Latin American talent with the exhibition “Our Second Home,” which highlights pieces of art created by artists from Mexico, Belize, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and, of course, Guatemala. The theme of the exhibition refers to the connection of these artists with the Asian country, considering it their “second home.”

Each artist, through their works, shares their experience as a migrant, exploring cultural exchange and the “longing to belong.” The exhibition also serves as a platform to discuss culture, geopolitics and globalization, supporting artists and promoting art among attendees.
Guatemalan artists to exhibit in Taiwan

Guillermo Cantón and María Inés Lacayo are the Guatemalans who will present their art in Taiwan, at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Cultural Center, one of the most important cultural spaces in the region. The exhibition will be open from August 2 to 11 and has been curated by Guatemalan Alejandra Sanchez Mack.
María Inés Lacayo, known as “Milah,” is a Guatemalan artist with international projection, having taken her art to countries such as Germany, Saudi Arabia and the United States. Her work includes paintings, murals, sculptures and installations. In “Nuestro Segundo Hogar” he will present the series “Niño Color”, with which he deeply explores childhood, color and personal evolution.

For his part, Guillermo Cantón has stood out for creating unique abstract pieces that combine shapes and colors. His works have been presented in New York, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. In Taiwan he will present the series “Belonging of the Soul”, where he reflects on the sense of belonging, beyond the physical location, focusing on the soul and the emotional state, using his characteristic play between form and color.
Highlighting Latin American and Guatemalan art in Asia

Alejandra Sanchez Mack is the Guatemalan behind this exhibition. Living in Taiwan for five years, she has founded and organized this exhibition, which already has five editions, making it the most important of its kind in the Asian country.

She is an architect with a master's degree in arts, specializing in critical and curatorial studies, and is currently pursuing a doctorate in political science with a focus on East Asian studies. She is also a trained contemporary dancer, triathlete, and part of the rowing team.

The exhibition “Our Second Home” not only celebrates the artists’ connection with Taiwan, but also seeks to foster intercultural dialogue and strengthen ties between Latin America and Asia through art. This exhibition is a testament to the power of art to transcend borders and create meaningful connections between people of different backgrounds and cultures.
