A mural in Havana for peace in Palestine

During this day, in solidarity with the victims of this war that seemed to have no end in sight, a group of Cuban visual artists came together to create a mural for everyone to see, on Paseo and 21, which was born as an initiative of the artists, in collaboration with the Committee for the Defense of the Revolution.

«We have to denounce this horrendous crime in every way possible, and this is one of them. Through art we condemn what is happening to the brother Palestinian people," said Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, national coordinator of the largest mass organization in the country, who attended the meeting.

Since early Saturday morning, cartoonists from Palante, Dedeté, Juventud Rebelde, among other national media, captured their art on the exterior wall of the Guido Fuentes basic secondary school, in Havana's Vedado. They were accompanied by Ricardo Ronquillo Bello, national president of the Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC), an organization of which many of the artists present are members.

Suddenly the area became busier than usual. The color and commotion caught the attention of many curious people, some of whom stayed briefly and took photos, while others stayed to collaborate, despite the scorching sun.

To complement the mural, several of the participants, including Gerardo Hernández, painted their hands with the colors of the Palestinian flag and left their footprints on one side of the wall, representing the Cuban people's condemnation of the war.

This solidarity activity was attended by officials from several Cuban organizations and Palestinians residing on the Island, such as Majed Abu AL Hawa, first Counselor of the Palestinian Embassy in Havana.

Omayma Alkhawaga, a young Palestinian resident studying a Bachelor's degree in Ophthalmology, told Granma there: "I thank Cuba because it has always shown its support and solidarity with the people of Palestine, who have suffered a lot. This mural excites me because I know that whenever I pass by here I will see my flag, images that remind me of my country and my cause.

The unanimous request to end the genocide in Gaza occurred throughout the Caribbean island, where Palestinian Land Day was also remembered by the First Secretary of the Communist Party, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, on the social network X.

"As long as the Palestinian land continues to be martyred, bled, destroyed to its foundations by the hatred of the Israeli occupier, we cannot tire of denouncing the crime and calling on the 'international community,'" wrote the Cuban Head of State.

In the Jaramillo Productive Pole Local Development Project, in the Havana municipality of La Lisa, Cuban peasant women along with their families asked for peace for those who suffer the deliberate aggressions of Israeli Zionism, which since October 7 have not ceased for a single day. .

Convened by the Cuban chapter of the World March of Women (WMM), the participants recalled that the Palestinian people live under Israeli colonial rule in a systematic military aggression and bombings.

The producers waited just at 12 noon to join their voices of solidarity with other actions carried out in the world at that precise moment and denounce the holocaust that is being committed in the 21st century to make the Palestinians disappear.

Surrounded by the reservoirs for the production of freshwater fish, the coordinator in Cuba of the WMM, Elpidia Moreno, explained the horrors committed by the fascist hordes of Israel and called on those present to look at themselves in that example, if one day the Revolution.

As part of the MMM, the Cuban Association of Animal Production, in the voice of Aurelia Castellanos, condemned in the harshest terms the bombings against the population in Gaza, rejected the destruction of hospitals and civil infrastructure, plus the murders of innocent people.

Several attendees highlighted the responsibility of United States imperialism in arming terrorist organizations, and in obstructing ceasefire attempts to end the bombings. They said they were waiting for any help requested by those people and agreed to subscribe to the letter from the Cuban Women's Federation, which circulates on social networks on the subject.

Another event occurred at the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the People, where participants overflowed the gardens and made emotional interventions in solidarity with the victims of the savage Zionist policy of extermination of the Palestinian population.

There, Palestinian students in Cuba renewed their commitment to their people to fight against the Israeli occupation and repression.
