The year that begins promises a busy cultural agenda, however, there are dates that will surely give rise to remembering relevant historical events and artists of great importance. Below, we mention thirteen anniversaries that you will not be able to ignore.

On February 28, 500 years have passed since the assassination of the tlatoani Cuauhtémoc, at the hands of the troops of Hernán Cortés.

On March 13, 700 years have passed since the birth of Tenochtitlán, a fundamental event for the creation of what is today Mexico.
On March 28, the centenary of the birth of the influential French musician, pedagogue and orchestra conductor, Pierre Boulez, is celebrated.

May 11 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Rubem Fonseca, a Brazilian writer who revolutionized crime fiction with his way of narrating violence.

May 22 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the prolific Mexican playwright and screenwriter Emilio Carballido.

October 21 marks the centenary of the birth of the Cuban performer Celia Cruz, known as “The Queen of Salsa.”

December 16 marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of the British writer Jane Austen, author of classics such as Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility.
