Latin American Meeting on Biodesign and Biomaterials

Biopolimérica: Latin American Meeting on Biodesign and Biomaterials invites biodesigners from Chile and Latin America to participate in the 2025 call

Biopolimérica, the Latin American Meeting on Biodesign and Biomaterials lands in Colombia for its third version and invites biodesigners from Chile and Latin America to participate in the 2025 call. Applications to these new calls will be made from January 13 to February 17, 2025 and the event will take place between May 22 and 25. All this, in order to continue expanding a community of material exploration and research that grows and is enriched by Latin American biodiversity. All the details of the event below.

Between Chile and Colombia, this 2025 the Biopolimérica organization has confirmed a new venue for the Biodesign and Biomaterials Meeting that focuses on questioning conventional materials while disseminating Latin American projects such as bio-based material alternatives around a balanced management of natural resources and ecosystem services. Today we live with conventional materials and products that are difficult to degrade, such as plastic containers, synthetic fibers and other materials derived from fossil fuels that are contributing to the accumulation of waste and garbage on a global level. However, there is a growing current of innovation and culture associated with rethinking the way we relate to materials.
Biopolimérica will land in 2025 in Medellín, Colombia to continue expanding a community of material exploration and research that grows and is enriched by Latin American biodiversity. After a first call for Colombian projects, Biopolimérica announces the opening of new calls for projects from all over Latin America.

The new lines to apply and be part of Biopolimérica 2025 are: 1) Latin American Exhibition Map of Abundance, 2) Educational Spaces / Productive Spaces: and 3) Pechakucha for emerging projects. Specifically, the first line seeks to exhibit in person Latin American biomaterial projects focused on the development of Matter, Craft and Industry. In the second line of application that corresponds to "Spaces" it is expected to make visible projects where the focus is the space of experimentation and not a specific materiality or technology. That is, focus on methodologies and approaches, laboratories, courses or workshops in the academy or independent. On the other hand, the "Pechakucha" line, as in the Valdivia 2023 version, aims to call for research or projects in early stages, scientific or artistic experiments from Latin American researchers residing anywhere in the world due to its hybrid format (remote/in person). Biopolimérica invites you to apply for these new calls from January 13 to February 17, 2025, through a registration form that can be found by visiting the official social networks of Instagram @biopolimerica @somoslabva and @manifiestobioart

The selected projects will be part of a 4-day event, from May 22 to 25, 2025, where their research and developments will be exhibited to an audience interested in science, design, craftsmanship and sustainability. Along with the exhibition, the days will be immersed in a program of talks by researchers in biomaterials from different corners of Latin America, practical workshops and activations with biomaterials.

Thanks to the support and agreement with the Faculty of Design of the University of Medellín and the Museum of Modern Art of Medellín, both institutions will be the venues for Biopolimérica 2025 under the premise Biodiverse Matter.
