The opening of the first international exhibition of the cultural space uyArtistas brought together guests, the press and authorities at MESC/UDESC, in Florianópolis
To the sound of Jazz and Bossa Nova with musicians Fidel Piñero and Sebastián Zinola, on March 6th, the Uruguayan cultural space uyArtistas held the opening of the 1st International Collective uyArt! / Brazil 2025, at the Museu da Escola Catarinense, in Florianópolis (SC). The event was attended by 25 of the 46 Latin American artists whose works are exhibited in the exhibition, as well as the curator of the exhibition and director of the cultural space, Ricardo Botana. In addition to the guests, the event also welcomed the press, the consul of Uruguay in Florianópolis, Tamara Guridi, and the coordinator of the Museu da Escola, Professor Dr. Maria Cristina da Rosa.
In their opening speeches, the authorities emphasized the importance of cultural exchange between the countries and their inhabitants, as well as the exchange of experiences and networking among the artists themselves, who can learn about works different from their own at these events.
According to Consul Tamara Guridi, it is an honor for the consulate to welcome a significant exhibition of Uruguayan art to Florianópolis. “Tonight we celebrate not only the arts that surround us, but also the deep cultural connection that the two countries have,” she said in her speech. Coordinator Maria Cristina thanked Ricardo and the artists whose works are exhibited at the museum, especially because this movement further enhances a space that is so important to Florianópolis and Santa Catarina.
Ricardo Botana reminded everyone that the exhibition is being held independently, was declared of ministerial interest by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Culture of Uruguay, and has the support of the Consulate of Uruguay in Florianópolis. “It is very important to highlight these recognitions, because they encourage us to do even more for art and artists in Latin America. There are already more than 450 artists who make up uyArtistas, and this recognition is essential,” he concluded.
At the end of the evening, Uruguayan artist Federico Butler, a specialist in digital art, demonstrated what it is like to create a work of art that combines works made physically with those produced in digital format.
The exhibition, which is part of the 2025 Cultural Marathon program, will be on display until March 30 at MESC/UDESC. The Museu da Escola Catarinense is located in downtown Florianópolis, at Rua Saldanha Marinho, 196. Visiting hours are Monday and Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Wednesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is free.
