Art in the streets of Palma

The Nit de l'Art kicks off: art in the streets of Palma with 28 spaces open to the public

The event has defied the rain this Saturday with proposals of contemporary art, music and dance
The XXVIII Nit de l´Art has given the starting signal for the artistic season in Palma, bringing contemporary art, music and dance to the streets and filling 28 different spaces in the city, defying the forecasts of rain that have not dampened the evening.
The proposal has been led by the 12 art galleries of the association Art Palma Contemporani (APC), creator of the Nit de l'Art, which has been joined by another 2 associated galleries, 2 independent spaces run by artists and 13 institutional spaces, in addition to the spontaneous artistic expressions that have come out to the streets. The evening stands out for bringing the work of local, national and internationally renowned artists closer to the public, in spaces that remain open at unusual times and accompanied by activities.

ABA ART has shown a solo exhibition by the Mallorcan painter Rafel Joan; the work of Robert Ferrer i Martorell (born in Valencia but resident in Mallorca) will be the subject of two solo exhibitions, in the nearby galleries on Sant Jaume street: Galeria Xavier Fiol and Pep Llabrés Art Contemporani; and Marta Blasco, who has lived and created for more than two decades in Mallorca, will exhibit at the CCA Andratx.

This edition of the Nit de l’Art also stands out for hosting the first solo exhibition in Mallorca by Lygia Clark, a key figure in 20th century Latin American art and founder of the Neo-Concrete movement, at Baró. The Kewenig Palma gallery is dedicating an exhibition to the Egyptian artist Ghada Amer; there will be a solo exhibition by the Scottish artist Janice McNab at the Fermay Gallery; and La Bibi hosts the work of the Korean Miju Lee.
The Fran Reus Gallery is offering two solo exhibitions: by Sebastian Burger and by the Polish Stach Szumski in the gallery's The Vault space, an area for specific interventions with very peculiar architectural characteristics. The great names of Spanish art are represented by the Maior Gallery project, with 'Geometries of the soul', a solo exhibition by José María Yturralde, in parallel with a space at La Misericordia in Palma.

The collective exhibition presented by the Pelaires Gallery, entitled 'Species of spaces', includes works by Mathilde Rosier, José Dávila, Janet Cardiff, Rebecca Horn, Rasmus Nilausen, Ana Laura Aláez, Andrea Bütter and Ramiro Oller. And the Pelaires Cabinet will host the solo exhibition by Regina Giménez.

There will be other collective exhibitions, such as the one curated by Rolando J. Carmona at Baró, which brings together works by Artur Barrio, Yoan Capote, Eugenio Espinoza, Magdalena Fernández, Gego, Hélio Oiticica, Mano Penalva, Luis Salazar and Antonieta Sosa; or the one by L21 with a wide selection of works by more than 80 artists. For the second consecutive year, the Xavier Fiol gallery is offering a collective exhibition outside its usual space, at Garaje Son Armadams, presenting works by Dis Berlín, Joan Bonnemaison, Tomás Pizá, Avelino Sala, Oscar Seco and Concha Vidal. The CCA Andratx is also offering a collective exhibition in one of the large rooms in its premises.
Among the institutional spaces, the Casal Solleric is exhibiting the work of Concha Jerez and Cecilia Paredes; Es Baluard Museu d’Art Contemporani de Palma is offering a solo exhibition by the Cuban artist Carlos Garaicoa, and 'SIDA, 'SIDA. A silenced history in the Balearic context' with works by Costus, Pepe Espaliú, Robert Mapplethorpe, Pepe Miralles, Gori Mora, Joan Morey, Ocaña, Andrés Senra, Toni Socías Cladera, The Carrying Society and Agustí Villaronga. The proposals of the Fundació Miró Mallorca are the project 'Calder & Miró. Guests' and works by Max de Esteban and Laia Ventayol. La Lonja opens its doors to the solo exhibition of Jaume Plensa; La Misericordia welcomes the galleries of the Part Forana; and the College of Lawyers of the Balearic Islands presents 'Ballant a la mar' by Mangel, among other options of the night.
