The painting Dama Oaxaqueña, by Diego Rivera, in which a woman appears in an elegant traditional Oaxacan dress, dated 1949 and valued at between 32 and 40 million pesos, is the star work of the next auction of Latin American art that will be held by the Morton auction house this May 30 at the Candiles Hall of the Club Naval Norte, in Mexico City.
“The auction is a way to promote the tradition of important artists who have had a transcendent cultural background in Mexico and Latin America. It is important to us that art lovers and collectors have these opportunities to acquire these high-quality works,” he said yesterday. at a press conference María Fernanda Serrano, manager of Morton's Modern and Contemporary Art department.

The acquisition of Dama Oaxaqueña comes from a private collection and, since 1978, it has been part of some exhibitions of Mexican art in France, Italy, Russia and in our own country.

Within the bidding, the paintings Fantasía, by David Alfaro Siqueiros - which could reach eight million pesos - and Landscape, by José Clemente Orozco - with a value of at least four million pesos - can also be purchased, in addition to 140 lots from 135 national, Latin American and other artists from around the world.

In the auction there are also works by Miguel Covarrubias, Saturnino Herrán and Roberto Montenegro, as well as contemporary creators such as Sergio Hernández, Jorge Marín, Jan Hendrix, Pedro Friedeberg, to name a few.
