The prestigious art fair celebrates its 21st anniversary; this year it adds a digital platform
21 years ago, ZONAMACO ART WEEK was born as a platform to promote contemporary art in Mexico and encourage collecting, filling a significant gap in the country's cultural scene. What began as an initiative to connect artists, galleries and collectors has become one of the art fairs with the greatest international influence. Its impact on the global scene and its role as a cultural bridge between Latin America and the rest of the world are notable.
Since its first edition, ZONAMACO took on the challenge of generating a key platform for the art world. This effort has contributed to the development of collecting in Mexico, to the strengthening of the art market and to the positioning of Mexico City as a global cultural destination. The establishment of Art Week, which emerged with the annual edition of the fair, enriched by the participation of institutions, museums, foundations, galleries and artists, has turned the city into a meeting point in February of each year for the protagonists of international contemporary art.
The growth of collecting and international participation
In these two decades, ZONAMACO ART WEEK has steadily promoted the growth of collecting in Mexico and Latin America. It has facilitated the connection between art lovers and the most significant works, allowing for the creation of new collections and strengthening interest in the art of the region. In addition, the fair has been the space where art investors from around the world and from different generations have access to international and local proposals, increasing the reach of Mexican and Latin American art in global markets.
This year, ZONAMACO is incorporating an online fair in collaboration with Always Art, a digital platform that will allow collectors and audiences to explore and acquire works from anywhere, adapting to current market dynamics and reaffirming our commitment to innovation.
In addition, ZONAMACO has integrated curators, specialists and directors of international institutions in its discussions, generating spaces for dialogue on topics relevant to contemporary art, collecting and cultural practices. It has also established a series of awards in collaboration with prestigious international institutions, which celebrate and recognize artistic talent. These programs enrich the fair experience and encourage the exchange of ideas.
ZONAMACO's trajectory not only reflects perseverance, but also an ability to adapt to changes and respond to the needs of the sector. It is the result of the constant work of a committed team and the trust of gallery owners, sponsors, allies and participants.
Each edition is an opportunity to expand its impact and continue contributing to the development of contemporary art in Mexico, Latin America and the world. We will continue working to ensure that art is a tool for reflection and cultural growth.
