“This is a multiple expression of national and international art in Latin America”
In dialogue with LR, María Paz Gaviria, Platforms manager of the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce, spoke about the new lines that the Fair seeks to expand within the Plastic Arts sector
The International Art Fair is one of the most important art meetings in the sector, since, according to internal spokespersons, the event moves an approximate figure of $100,000 million. In dialogue with LR, María Paz Gaviria, Platforms manager of the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce, spoke about the new lines that the Fair seeks to expand within the Plastic Arts sector.
How many attendees are you expecting this year?
Three years have passed since the CDB had not been able to hold an in-person edition. In 2019, we received 35,000 attendees that we hope will be possible to receive again.
What were you doing during these three years without being able to appear in person?
From the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce, we generated a fund to support art, we worked to strengthen the business unit, the entire art ecosystem, we carried out several digital activities where we provided solutions for members of the sector in different types of sales. And precisely we have also made a series of tours around Bogotá, and we have carried out several digital initiatives.
What is the theme that accompanies this return to presence?
Artbo made an expression of the entire value chain of the Plastic Arts in the country and is one of the main art meetings in Latin America. The simple presence of those 51 galleries that accompany us show countless artists participating for the first time.
Which is the message?
This is a multiple expression of national and international art, of its galleries, of young Colombian artists. But without a doubt, one of the things that brings together what is happening most deeply is that it provides a post-pandemic reflection. There is a lot of talk about the concept of resurgence.
What are the most important avant-garde themes of the Fair?
Particularly this edition, in alliance with specialized European institutions, details topics such as 'Tropical Gothic', the 'Ghost of Colonialism', and a new environmental awareness. This is dedicated to a specialized audience and another that is not so specialized, so pedagogy is promoted through the Plastic Arts within the national and international context.
