THE MUSEUM, A SHARED CREATION: ETHICS, SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION AND CULTURAL LEGACY
The Annual Conference “The museum, a shared creation: Ethics, social transformation and cultural legacy” will address the issue of the social and educational responsibility of modern and contemporary art museums.
“This Conference will be the first in the history of CIMAM to fully address the social and educational role of modern and contemporary art museums. Museums in this part of the world have extensive experience in working to create effective micro-policy development to promote social justice, cultural and social transformation and community development. We are working towards a museum concept that we build together, in partnership, in dialogue with our audiences. This is why we are going to address during the Conference a holistic conception of museums, that is, how this museum can be seen as living, dynamic, social, fully in dialogue with the community. Likewise, we are going to point out specific aspects related to education, accessibility, community construction and the development of heritage and collections from the point of view of social responsibility, so that these collections that we are building can reflect the concerns of humanity towards the future,” says Victoria Noorthoorn, director of the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires and member of the Board of Directors of CIMAM.
In the current edition of the Conference, the presentations will be brief, lasting an average of twenty minutes each and leaving enough time for dialogue. For the first time, simultaneous English-Spanish interpretation will be offered to facilitate communications between local and visiting professionals, and a childcare space will be available for children during Conference sessions.
