Movimento Cidade brings art from Espírito Santo to Mexico City

The cultural exchange includes murals and a discussion on female entrepreneurship, promoting connections between Brazil and Mexico

Movimento Cidade Projetos Criativos and Instituto Movimento Cidade, responsible for the largest integrated arts festival in Espírito Santo, will arrive in Mexico City on March 6.

The initiative marks the international debut of MC.Arte and the MC.Mulheres project, which promotes entrepreneurial training for women.

The event, called Intercâmbio Movimento Cidade México, will include artistic interventions, discussions and connections between artists and cultural producers from Brazil and Mexico. Stimulating the debate on artistic and cultural protagonism in Latin America.

Between March 7 and 17, artists from Espírito Santo Amanda Lobos and Handerson Chic, in collaboration with Mexican Santiago Savi, will paint two murals.

The first work will be done at the Carlos Chávez Library, under the cultural coordination of Léo Alves. The second painting will take place at the Farol del Saber Salesiano, a center dedicated to the creation and dissemination of arts and culture.

The murals symbolize the cultural exchange between Brazil and Mexico, incorporating elements of the artistic identities of both countries. In addition to revitalizing urban spaces, these open-air works of art will leave a visual legacy for the city and its inhabitants, just as MC.Arte has already done in several Brazilian locations.

At the same time, MC.Mulheres will promote the event Movimenta Mulheres, a discussion on cultural production and female entrepreneurship, on March 14, at 5 pm, at the Instituto Guimarães Rosa, in Mexico City.

The event will feature the participation of Luísa Costa, Gabriela Duque, Gabriela Camargo and Mexican artist Tatiana Garcia (Tatú), who will discuss the impact of women on the creative economy.

The event will close with a pocket show by Cuban-Mexican Leiden and Brazilian Katy Barbosa, combining Afro-Latin music with cultural debate.

“Cultural exchanges, residencies and exchanges will take place in various artistic territories in Mexico City. These actions are part of MC em Movimento, a connection between Brazil and Mexico supported by the Guimarães Rosa/Mexico Institute, the Government of Espírito Santo and the Ministry of Culture, with local production by Mar Cultura Producciones,” explains Léo Alves, creator and founder of Movimento Cidade.
