Exhibition The Blue Forest in São Paulo

09 Aug 2023 to 16 Sep 2023

Description of the Exhibition
"THE BLUE FOREST"
the complexities of the relationship between nature, culture and politics through the artistic lens of Alexandre Murucci.

Alexandre Murucci exhibits A FLORESTA AZUL, at the Centro Cultural dos Correios SP, curated by Victor Gorgulho, where he brings together a series of new works that address fundamental issues related to the natural heritage of Brazil, the importance of the original peoples, the threats faced by the Amazon Forest and the sociopolitical landscape that affects the future of the planet. Through a conceptual approach, the public will be invited to reflect on the life that flows in the forest, giving it its blue hue.

The exhibition's central question is expressed by the artist himself: "What color is a forest?" The title offers an implicit answer to this question, insinuating that the forest is blue, due to the vitality it exudes to the environment. Murucci enters the heart of the discussion about the Amazon Rainforest, using various artistic means to examine the complexities of the region and its relationship with contemporary geopolitical reality.

Through different media and supports, the artist tackles one of the most urgent issues in Brazil today and in the contemporary world: the preservation of the Amazon. Whether through a critical and incisive approach to the past of neglect and failed projects that marked the history of the largest tropical forest in the world, or through a poetic look that offers a panoramic view of the past and present of the region and of Brazil, invites the public to embark on a labyrinthine journey that encompasses the social, political and cultural aspects of this territory that stands out for its neglect and, at the same time, for the fascination it awakens in all beings that share this planet, our Earth. The Blue Forest represents life flowing in the air in a liquid and vital form, giving the forest a blue hue, in contrast to the conventional colors associated with this ecosystem.

With a marked conceptual focus, Alexandre Murucci exhibits works in different supports, including an installation that will give the exhibition its name, entitled "space labyrinths". This immense and delicate composition is built from wooden frames and synthetic silk screens, creating a floating landscape inserted in a concretist fabric.

“Now taking a critical and scathing look at the historically known past of neglect and successive projects doomed to failure in the largest tropical forest in the world; now presenting us with a yesterday-today panorama of the Amazon and Brazil through a unique poetic gaze, the artist invites the viewer on a labyrinthine journey — literal and metaphorical — through the intricacies of the social, political and cultural history of a territory to a single time, the result of the indifference and endless fascination of the eyes (and lungs) of all beings that inhabit this planet that we still call…Earth”, says Victor Gorgulho.

“What color is a forest? Green as it should? Yellow and dry? Red as when it burns in flames? Black, after their deaths? For the artist it is blue, because of the life that transpires in the air. Life in liquid and vital form!” Alexandre Murucci
