EXHIBITIONS

In Natural Theology, Alina Duchrow brings a reflection on environmental exploitation and cultural memory. "The name of the exhibition has an ambiguous connotation. It speaks of a Christian belief adopted by the great imperialist powers, mainly the United Kingdom, where, in the name of the gospel, everything that existed in nature should be made available to everyone, thus justifying free trade and the exploitation of natural resources in the colonies in Latin America, Asia and Africa. However, Natural Theology can be seen as the sacred relationship between man and nature", she explains.

"Upon entering the forest, the migrants from the Northeast, rubber tappers, received knowledge of the powerful plants and forest rituals from the native peoples who lived in the forest. They created a new religion of devotion and respect for all living things, completely contrary to the mercantilist idea that drove the rubber cycle", she points out.

The exhibition is full of natural materials, such as latex, which in the installation "Medicine", is molded by hand by Duchrow, creating shapes that recall the texture of plant matter, criticizing the disconnection of industrial environments with nature.

In Nascente, Ana Cristina Mendes intertwines nature with mythology. Pieces such as “Sertão de Fora” and “Bichos do Rio” explore Northeastern legends and the region's biodiversity.

In the works “Vídeo Nascente” and “Sonhário”, the artist used elements such as water and earth to create an immersive experience, inviting visitors to reflect on the origins and transformations of nature.

The exhibition also features projections and installations distributed across several rooms, which explore aspects of the relationship between human beings and the natural environment.

"My visual language moves through various artistic codes, such as video, photography, drawing, painting, and performance. This creative process is often intuitive and experimental, in which I also seek to free myself from notions already crystallized by culture and thus access memories and affections buried by the invisible skins of oblivion. In this sense, I hope that visitors receive the works in a permeable way, looking at the works, but also with the possibility of being looked at by them", he highlights.
