From November 15 to December 16, you can enjoy the work of great artists of the 20th century such as Frida Kahlo, Edvard Munch and Maverick Modigliani through the documentaries that will be part of the Alternative Cinema program.
With the help of renowned curators and historians, viewers of the new art cycle of the alternative section of Cine Colombia will be able to transport themselves to some of the most prestigious museums in the world to discover the works and legacy of great artists who have marked the history of art in recent years.

Edvard Munch (1863 – 1944), Amedeo Modigliani (1884 – 1920), Frida Kahlo (1907 – 1954), Jeff Koons (1955), and Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) are the protagonists of the five documentaries that are part of this program that offers a privileged and intimate view of their life and work.
To start this film and art agenda, between November 15 and 18, the documentary Munch: Between Ghosts and Loves will be screened, which explores the legacy of the author of The Scream, marked by the inauguration in June 2020 of the Munch Museum in his city, Oslo. The film will start from there to shed light on a man and an artist of singular charm, to whom contemporary culture owes a debt.

Then, from November 22 to 25, Maverick Modigliani: Rebel and Legendary will be on the billboard, the avant-garde genius of elongated figures and stylized portraits. From his beginnings in Livorno to his rise in Paris, viewers will travel through the cities that marked his art. The documentary covers his key exhibitions in Livorno, Washington and Paris, showing his impact and legacy. It is narrated from an original point of view, that of his young wife, Jeanne Hébuterne, whose face became the true icon of his art.
The month ends with a tour of the physical pain and political commitment that made Frida Kahlo (1907 – 1954) the most recognized Mexican artist around the world through her self-portraits, universal symbols of identity and resistance. Frida: Viva la Vida, presented from November 29 to December 2, portrays the painter as a crucial figure in 20th-century art, whose legacy continues to inspire artists and activists around the world. It includes testimonies from historians and a tour of her most iconic works.

The fourth documentary on the billboard will be Jeff Koons: A Journey to His Genius, presented between December 6 and 9, a journey through the mind of the most controversial artist of our time: Jeff Koons (1955). This production follows the steps of Koons, known for his sculptures that resemble bright balloons, from his roots in Pennsylvania to his imposing studio in New York, accompanying him on his global exhibition tour.

The cycle will close from December 13 to 16 with Picasso: A Rebel in Paris, a journey through the life of Pablo Picasso fifty years after his death, from his youth in Paris to his status as an icon of 20th-century art. By visiting the Musée National Picasso in Paris, which houses more than 6,000 of his works, viewers will discover his cubist legacy, his found object sculptures, and his sketches of masterpieces, accompanied by experts who unravel his transformative impact on modern art.

This art cycle at Cineco Alternativo, developed in partnership with Nexo Digital and with tickets already available, can be enjoyed in fourteen theaters across the country in the cities of Barranquilla, Bogotá, Bucaramanga, Cali, Cartagena, Chía, Manizales, Medellín, and Pereira.

In addition, before each broadcast, the curator of the National Museum, Jaime Cerón, will present the "Colombian Film Art and History Club." These educational meetings will be at 5:30 pm, via Zoom, and are open to all those interested in learning and getting to know these artists, at no cost.
In these spaces, Cerón will provide the historical context of the artists and their influences, show illustrative examples of each one's legacy, and provide tools to learn to enjoy documentaries with information relevant to each one. Each conversation offers a valuable learning experience and cultural enrichment.
