In an emotional event held at the facilities of the Usina Cultural, the presentation of recognitions to the 16th Latin American Festival and Congress of Art towards Deinstitutionalization took place yesterday. The event, organized by the Argentine Network of Art and Mental Health, Salta Regional, took place during the month of October and concluded with a day of activities on October 30.

Councilor Gustavo Farquharson, author of the regulation that declared the festival of Municipal Interest, presented a Commemorative Plaque and a copy of Resolution No. 608. The distinctions were received by Ms. Rocío Livelli, Professor Daniel Agüero and other members of the organization.

The festival, according to the considerations of the regulation, was held on multiple days and locations. During the event, there were theatre performances, visual art screenings, photography workshops and guided visits to museums. The initiative allowed the participation of delegations made up of 70% patients-users of mental health, who carry out artistic activities in hospitals and mental health centres, promoting health in their communities through art and contributing to the processes of deinstitutionalization.
"It is a valuable meeting that brings together artists who live or are treated in hospitals and community mental health centres, who, through their artistic works, show themselves as creators, breaking down the social myth of madness and questioning the existence of places of confinement that violate their rights," said Councillor Farquharson.

The 16th Latin American Art Festival and Congress towards Deinstitutionalization reinforces the commitment of the organisers and participants to a vision of mental health that promotes integration, artistic expression and the dignity of users of the mental health system in Latin America.
