The art of Betsabeé Romero arrives in Venice

The Mexican artist reflects on border lines
Within the framework of the Venice Biennale, the Mexican artist Betsabeé Romero inaugurates the exhibition “The Endless Spiral”, in Galleria Piazza San Marco.

“The selection took many months. We were one of the 30 projects selected to make a parallel exhibition, which is very much in line with the general theme of the biennial, but more specifically from what it means to impose borders, edges, almost sharp lines that hurt cultural identity. , gender, personal and community, cultural and historical identity,” said the artist, in a press release.
The pieces on display vary between new work and commissions. Works are shown such as the installation “Signs that will guide us to exile”, “Identities”, “Barbed Borders”, “Rubber and gold rolling totem”, “At the vanishing point of shadows” and “Feathers of a dawn in spiral".
“La Espiral Sin Fin” is organized by the Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) and curated by Argentine Gabriela Urtiaga.

“(Betsabeé) developed a strong starting narrative that focuses on the experience of being a stranger in the world and from the perspective of many who lack territory to seek refuge and survive. She speaks of those who search and run, constantly colliding with political and economic borders that are always foreign and exclusive; of the mirror that does not recognize us, that doubts, observes, ignores and distorts,” declared MOLAA.
