Exhibition of works by the Mexican artist in Madrid

Margarita Nelken, a key figure in Mexican art, will have an exhibition in Madrid
Feminist and progressive, the Spanish exile Margarita Nelken "left her mark on Mexican art" and a legacy "to be vindicated, both in Mexico and in Spain," according to the curator Daniel Garza Usabiaga, who regrets that her figure, "and that of other exiles who nourished Mexican culture, has been blurred over the years."
The Mexican art historian and current director of the Museum of the Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City has been remembering and revaluing the role of Nelken (Madrid 1894-Mexico City 1968) for years: first with an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City (MAM) and now with another at Casa de México in Madrid.

"In Spain she is known as a political activist and for being a deputy of the Second Republic - Garza clarifies in an interview - and in Mexico, where she arrived after the coup d'état of dictator Franco, she is more valued for her role in the world of the arts."
