Pleamar Festival at the MAR Museum: waves of art and technology in the spring of Mar del Plata
This weekend, the meeting of technological media in artistic creation completes its tenth edition with audiovisual performances, discussions and an augmented reality installation
I think that the most important thing about Pleamar is that it is a constantly growing and open channel for artistic expression and training in everything related to audiovisual, electronic and electroacoustic arts. It emerged in 2019 as an outreach activity that quickly became a festival. This emergence responded to the needs of the Mar del Plata scene and the surrounding areas in the Province of Buenos Aires, a region that concentrates great artistic talent, but where it is often difficult to project itself to other regions or countries. Despite this, the scene in this area is constantly growing, with creators who continue to enrich the country's artistic panorama.
What began as a project focused "for Mar del Plata" quickly evolved into an event that acts "from Mar del Plata." This identity is projected in the territory in various ways, through federal calls, and has the support of Argentine institutions, in addition to including artists from different provinces and even from other countries in their programs. Throughout these years, Pleamar has also been projected in the city of Buenos Aires through events in important cultural spaces such as La Manzana de las Luces, the Sala Inmersiva del ex CCK, the Cultural San Martín, the Centro Cultural Recoleta and Artlab.

The core project of Pleamar is the annual festival that we have held at the MAR Museum, in Mar del Plata, for the past five years. From there, we consolidate many of the aspects that define our identity. The fact of not working from the cultural capital of Argentina gives us a federal vision and mission, a space where artists from different provinces can be integrated into the programming each year. At the same time, Pleamar always seeks territorial expansion. We really like to think of the image of a wave that advances, an idea that represents our desire to expand and connect with other regions. During 2023 and 2024, we are focused on finding spaces and visibility in Buenos Aires, and we are currently working to reach other cities in the future. These territorial movements have been years in the making, so we are happy to have achieved 10 editions, both at the MAR Museum and in the diaspora we have been creating.
