"The Perennial Dream. Clara Ledesma. One Hundred Years after Her Birth in Santiago" Announced, Báez-Tavárez Collection
EL NUEVO DIARIO, SANTIAGO.- The exhibition "The Perennial Dream. Clara Ledesma. One Hundred Years after Her Birth in Santiago", with works from the Collection of Fernando Báez Guerrero and his wife Nancy Tavárez de Báez, will be inaugurated next Tuesday, October 22 of this year, at 7:00 p.m., at the Dominican Convention and Culture Center (UTESA), located on Las Carreras Avenue, corner of Francia, in the city of Santiago.
The exhibition, which invites you to immerse yourself in the vibrant colors and ethereal figures of the artist, where the everyday is transformed into dreams and the symbols are intertwined with the magic of the Caribbean, will be held within the framework of the 50th Anniversary of the Technological University of Santiago (UTESA).
Most of the works by Clara Ledesma in the Báez-Tavárez Collection were acquired from prestigious auction houses, galleries and private collections in Santo Domingo, New York, Montreal and various European cities.
Of the 70 works to be presented, from the beginning of the artist's career to the end, there will be 20 that have never been exhibited in the country.
Clara Ledesma (1924-1999) has been recognized as one of the fundamental personalities of the visual arts in the Dominican Republic and throughout the Caribbean region. Her work and personality have been contextualized and appreciated at the same level as those of female artists such as the Brazilian Tarsila do Amaral; the Mexican Frida Kahlo and Leonora Carrington and the Cuban Amelia Peláez, among other emblematic exponents of Latin American art of the 20th century.
«The Perennial Dream. Clara Ledesma. One Hundred Years Since Her Birth in Santiago» will be held in coordination with UTESA and with the support of La Monumental de Seguros, Caribbean Industrial Park and La Información Newspaper.
