Universities of Valparaíso will host the XXVII Latin American Seminar on Musical Education 2023
Between Tuesday, October 10 and Saturday, October 14, 2023, the “XXVII Latin American Seminar on Musical Education” will be held in Valparaíso, an event that hopes to bring together around 500 people, including teachers, academics, researchers, performers and other music professionals from all Latin American countries, from Mexico to Chile.
This important event takes place annually in different countries in the region and it has not been held in our country for exactly 20 years. On this occasion, it will host three outstanding universities in the Valparaíso region, such as the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, the Universidad de Playa Ancha and the University of Valparaíso.
Paula Huerta, president of FLADEM Chile, explained: “The fundamental objective of the seminar is creativity in Latin American musical education, with emphasis on transformative musical making and the search for a methodology that identifies with our stories and traditions, our music. and our values, for which presentations, forums, workshops, work tables, musical presentations and teaching materials, among other activities, will be developed, with a day of cultural exchange in the Mercado Puerto, culminating in a concert at the Municipal Theater of Valparaiso.”
It should be noted that FLADEM (Latin American Forum on Musical Education) is a private and independent institution that brings together music educators from all areas and levels in Latin American countries. Since its creation in San José, Costa Rica in January 1995, the Forum has been essentially concerned with developing greater awareness about the value of musical education in the integral formation of the human being, establishing a supportive and cooperative professional network that brings together music educators across the continent.
