Center Pompidou's first branch in Latin America will be in Paraná

Georges Pompidou Arts Center is one of the most important spaces for modern and contemporary art in Paris, France. The new museum is expected to open by 2026 in Foz do Iguaçu.

This Wednesday (17), the Government of Paraná signed an agreement with the Georges Pompidou Arts Center, and Foz do Iguaçu, in the west of Paraná, will receive the first branch of the cultural complex in Latin America.

The Georges Pompidou Arts Center is considered one of the most important spaces for modern and contemporary art in Paris, France. With its own collection of works by renowned artists, such as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí and Frida Kahlo, the museum also hosts traveling exhibitions.
In addition to Paris, Pompidou has only three branches around the world. One in Brussels, Belgium, another in Málaga, Spain, and one in Shanghai, China.

There is still no forecast of when the museum, called the Foz do Iguaçu International Art Museum, will open, but the unit is expected to be open to the public by 2026, according to the Government of Paraná.

According to Laurente Le Bon, president of Pompidou, the idea is that the Foz do Iguaçu International Museum's programming will consist of pieces by Latin American artists and also from the French museum's collection.

Governor Ratinho Junior (PSD) highlighted the tourist opportunity of the branch in Paraná.

"This is a very important day not only for the culture of Foz de Iguaçu or Paraná, but for Brazilian culture. There is no museum like this today, the result of a partnership like this, in the southern hemisphere. It is a novelty that goes beyond the borders of Brazil. The cultural circuit of museums generates billions of dollars, with many tourists who travel around the world every year visiting the main units in the world and now Foz do Iguaçu will be on this route", stated the governor.
