13 Botero works to be auctioned

Christie's to auction thirteen Botero works in a bidding process dedicated to Latin American art

New York, Sep 23 (EFE).- Christie's will auction thirteen works by Colombian artist Fernando Botero in New York next October, including 'Cazador', a painting from 1982 that will go on sale with an estimated price of between 800,000 and 1.2 million dollars.

The painting 'Cazador', in which Botero reinterprets a work of the same name by Diego Velázquez, is the most expensive piece in the upcoming Christie's auction, which will be held on October 2 and will include sixty more focused on Latin American art.
In his version of 'Hunter', Botero reimagines the Philip IV that the Spaniard portrayed in 1633 as a contemporary Latin American infantry soldier, with a red scarf tied around his neck and a bandolier around his waist, Christie's explains in a statement.

Botero is one of the great protagonists of this auction, and his painting 'Woman Standing in a Bedroom', in which he portrays a naked female figure with a cross hanging on her chest, is crowned as the second most expensive piece of the auction, with an estimated price between 600,000 and 800,000 dollars.
Christie's will also be selling five small sculptures by the artist, known worldwide for his sculptures of voluptuous figures, including 'Reclining Nude' (between $500,000 and $700,000) and 'Eve' (between $400,000 and $600,000), as well as a pair of still lifes, 'Still Life with Onions' and 'Kitchen Table', both priced at between $300,000 and $500,000.

It will also be auctioning the painting 'Woman on a Balcony' (between $350,000 and $450,000) and two sketches made in 1982, 'Woman with Guitar' (between $35,000 and $45,000), and 'Still Life' (between $30,000 and $40,000).

Beyond Botero, other works stand out in this auction, such as 'Pensador', by the surrealist painter Leonora Carrington (between 600,000 and 800,000) or 'Retrato de María Bonilla Porras' by the Mexican Diego Rivera (between 400,000 and 600,000), as well as pieces by José Clemente, Olga Albizu or Francisco Toledo.

Christie's will also put up for sale from September 27 to October 8 more than one hundred works by Latin American artists in a virtual auction with a wide selection from the 17th and 18th centuries, and several pieces by contemporary artists such as Rogelio Polesello or Alicia Penalba.

According to Christie's, both auctions are expected to raise around 10 million dollars.
