The upcoming exhibitions at the Museum of Journalism and Graphic Arts (MUPAG) will cover everything from the history of Latin American thought to contemporary photography, including comic book culture and caricature.
Gerardo Lammers, the museum's director, detailed the exhibition proposals that will be coming to the museum this year, highlighting collaborations with renowned artists and innovative projects that incorporate technology and public participation.
One of the projects is “The Resurrection of Simón Rodríguez,” a collaboration with the Uruguayan artist Luis Camnitzer, a reference in Latin American conceptualism.
The exhibition will focus on the thought of the Venezuelan educator and philosopher Simón Rodríguez and his connection with El Despertador Americano, a historic newspaper published in the Casa de los Perros.
"It is an exhibition that arises from an invitation I made to Luis to see what the connections could be between the publication of El Despertador Americano and the American societies of 1828 by Simón Rodríguez.
They are two contemporary publications, from the time, both libertarian in the Latin American context, and Camnitzer will use artificial intelligence to update Rodríguez's aphorisms, creating a unique intervention in the permanent room of the museum."
The third floor of the museum will house “The Dictionary of Power,” an interactive installation that will invite the public to actively participate. This project will be accompanied by a symposium on Simón Rodríguez, organized by the academic María del Rayo Ramírez, from the Autonomous University of Mexico City.
The museum will also give space to local comics and fanzines with the exhibition “Ricos Jugos,” organized by the collective of the same name.
"It is an independent project dedicated to fanzines and comics, with Rafael Rodríguez, known as 'Pachiclón', and his partner Aranzazú, and which will revolve around comics and local and regional fanzines, perhaps with some national exponents as well."
MUPAG will also work with the Goethe Institute Bezirk to present two highly interesting exhibitions: one on caricature and another focused on cantina photography, exploring these spaces as meeting points and social memory.
Another activity will be "Codificar, Almacenar, Recuperar" (Coding, Storing, Recovering), an exhibition that will come from the Centro de la Imagen in Mexico City. The exhibition will offer an overview of contemporary Jalisco photography, highlighting both emerging artists and established creators from the region.
