The Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC) of the University of Chile inaugurated its first exhibition period in 2024 at its headquarters in Quinta Normal. The ceremony took place on Friday, May 3 at Matucana 464. On the day, three exhibitions were opened: They tried to make me go to rehab, Boris Campos Ernst and Serena Oliva; Aspects of the countenance, 2021 and 2022 cohorts of the Master of Arts, mention in Visual Arts from the University of Chile; and Interaction Room: Compost Pedagogies. Bugs, humus and metaphors on the Art/Education border, curated by EducaMAC.
The event, which brought together more than 500 people, was attended by the vice-rector of Extension and Communications of the University of Chile, Pilar Barba; the dean of the Faculty of Arts, Fernando Carrasco; and Daniel Cruz, director of the MAC. The day began with a pre-opening in the museum's front garden, along with Hasta Pronto Brewing Co. and a DJ set by the singer, songwriter, keyboardist and producer, Mariana Montenegro.
“The exhibitions that we present in this period are linked to the formative nature of the visual arts and artistic practice. The samples show how the knowledge and techniques derived from contemporary art dialogue in an expansive and concrete way to form part of a transit of meanings that promote the views and perspectives of authors who are projected towards diverse scenarios, where their poetics and materialities reflect the relationship between the human and the emotional,” says the director of the MAC, Daniel Cruz.
The three inaugurated exhibitions are added to the recently presented exhibitions Guillermo Pop: Colores de una utopia, co-produced between the MAC and the Curatorship course of the Bachelor of Arts degree with a mention in Theory and History of Art at the University of Chile, directed by Professor Paz López; and Interaction Room: Thinking with your hands, charge of the Education Unit of the MAC and the Museum of American Popular Art (MAPA). This is a project that included two art+education residencies in the Valparaíso Region. The first was developed together with students from La Greda School (Puchuncaví), and the second in collaboration with students from El Melón School (Nogales).
All exhibits will be open until August 18, 2024.
