Arte-Circuito Jardim Europa democratizes access to art in the capital of São Paulo

São Paulo, one of the most populous and economically important cities in the country, is also known as a great cultural hub. With different types of artistic manifestations, the place is also a destination for art tourism and a route for national and international artists who seek to exhibit their work in the numerous museums, galleries, among other spaces spread across the capital.

As a multifaceted cultural center, different regions stand out with incentives for artistic expression and programming with activities focused on this universe. Examples of this are the Vila Madalena neighborhoods, with spaces such as Museu da Pessoa, A Casa Museu do Objeto Brasileiro and Imã Foto Galeria, and Jardim Europa, in addition to the iconic Avenida Paulista region, with institutions such as Casa das Rosas, MASP and Japan House São Paulo. Jardim Europa, in particular, is home to several cultural centers such as the MIS (Museum of Image and Sound), MuBE (Brazilian Museum of Sculpture and Ecology), Casa Museu Ema Klabin, several galleries, as well as many gastronomic options, including part of the tourist itinerary for anyone visiting the capital.

The place has also been the stage for different initiatives to increasingly promote the democratization of access and encourage visits to cultural spaces in the city, such as Arte-Circuito Jardim Europa. With a special program, the 6th edition of the project will be held on Saturday, October 21st, bringing together seven galleries in the region, including Galeria Mario Cohen, Galeria Lume, Galeria Marília Razuk, among others. With free visits and the availability of vans for the public to follow the itinerary throughout the day, from 11am to 5pm, the event features exhibitions by national and international artists.

Highlight is the exhibition by Argentine multi-artist Edo Costantini, who opens his first solo show on Brazilian soil at Galeria Mario Cohen, entitled “Uma Flor Não é Uma Flor”, between October 21st and November 25th. Curated by Clara Ríos, the exhibition is made up of an unprecedented series of 11 works that portray the ephemerality of nature and marks the first time that the photographer exhibits his work individually in South America. His photographs revolve around the sublime of nature, portrayed through ethereal representations of the forests of upstate New York.

The itinerary for this edition also includes the exhibition “A Voz do Rio” by visual artist Seba Calfuqueo, held by Galeria Marília Razuk, which features different languages and techniques used by the artist, such as videos of performances, drawings and works made in ceramics, all taking the “river” as its starting point. The exhibition presents stories of connection and defense of rivers, from the Mapuche people to connections with indigenous peoples of the Amazon.

Galeria Lume presents the exhibition “Sobre Muros” by photographer Julio Bittencourt, whose works address the different ways in which these walls are built in everyday life. Thus, the photographer guides the visitor through a section of the pseudo-invisible borders that permeate society.

Projects such as Arte-Circuito Jardim Europa, also composed of the galleries AM Galeria SP, Dan Galeria Contemporânea, Luciana Brito Galeria and Spiti.Auction, aim not only to highlight important regions of the city as cultural itineraries, but mainly to include different audiences by democratizing the access to contemporary arts and news from this universe. Furthermore, such initiatives can increasingly reinforce the position of the capital of São Paulo as an effervescent cultural epicenter.
