ARCOmadrid - organized by IFEMA MADRID - in this edition has the participation of 205 galleries from 36 countries. 30% corresponds to a Latin American presence, especially from Argentina, Brazil and Mexico. The section curated by Carla Acevedo-Yates and Sara Hermann Morera, will revolve around the artistic scenes of the territories connected by the oceanic Caribbean.
In addition, ARCOmadrid once again presents artistic content with the General Program galleries selected by the Organizing Committee, as well as the “Opening” section, curated by Cristina Anglada and Yina Jiménez Suriel, where a selection of young galleries is presented. The section “Never the same. Latin American Art”, curated by José Esparza Chong Cuy and Manuela Moscoso, continues to reinforce the historical link between ARCOmadrid and Latin American art.
The main section will feature the presence of Herlitzka & Co., which will exhibit works by anonymous weaving artists from Northern Argentina, Andrés Bedoya, Fernando 'Coco' Bedoya, Gonzalo Elvira, Anita Payró, Alejandro Puente and Candelaria Traverso. The pieces are linked to textiles and the Latin American worldview. Nora Fisch participates with a Solo Show by Alfredo Londaibere and it is the first time that a large group of works by this artist is exhibited internationally.
For its part, Pasto Galería presents artists whose themes are linked to the South American territory and its problems in the present and recent past. At its stand we can see works by the Peruvian artist Iosu Aramburu, Francisco Casas Silvaz from Chile, Zé Carlos García from Brazil and the Argentine Ariel Cusnir. The Ruth Benzacar gallery booth brings together works by Ana Gallardo, Florencia Rodriguez Giles, Sofia Durrieu and Ulises Mazzucca. Finally, W-Galería exhibits works by two artists whose practices are strongly linked to their cultural roots, their environment, and natural materials: Chonon Bensho (artist from the Peruvian Amazon) and Florencia Sadir (artist from Argentina).
Opening. New galleries, committed to young international gallery art and to being the space for the discovery of new proposals. Piedras is one of the 15 galleries that participates in this section and does so with a proposal that puts in dialogue a series of pen drawings on paper by the Santa Fe artist Clara Esborraz and a set of polychrome plaster sculptures by the Tucumán artist Carla Grunauer .
In the Never the Same section. Latin American art, which seeks to contribute to strengthening the research of Latin American creation, we have the presence of three associated galleries. Floating Island, will present a group of paintings from the Tamizh series by Argentine artist Rosario Zorraquin. For its part, the Sendros Gallery participates in a Solo Show with works by Andrés Piña. Finally, the _vigilgonzales gallery has a double presence at the fair.
On the one hand, the section is never the same with works by Violeta Quispe Yupari, who continues her family legacy by exploring contemporary themes of the Sarhua visual tradition about which she expresses herself from a feminist position. And on the other hand, on the shore, the tide, the current: an oceanic Caribbean, a section that proposes a reading of the complex intersection between the land and this sea that arises from and to the shore as a space of exchange and constant instability. . The _vigilgonzales gallery will exhibit works by Puerto Rican artist Karlo Andrei Ibarra.
