Renowned Cuban artist will open personal exhibition in Havana

Havana, Sep 6 (Prensa Latina) Cuban visual artist Arístides Hernández (Ares) today mounts his exhibition “Mestizo”, which will be inaugurated next Friday, at 4:00 p.m., local time, in gallery 23 and 12 of this capital.

The exhibition, curated by the art critic Meira Marrero, is made up of more than twenty pieces made on the Caribbean island and in Brazil that include graphic humor, painting, sculpture, assemblage and installation.

According to Art History professor Odette Bello, they are part of the artist's most recent production and a summary of his concerns, the constant process of search and reflection about his identity, about the history that conditions him and that has determined the current geopolitical configuration of the world.

“Ares proposes to review history and questions the hegemonic and civilizational Western stories, reveals the episodes that are omitted in the epic macro-stories”, she indicated.

The exhibition, open to the public until next October, is carried out with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the National Council of Plastic Arts, the Cuban Fund for Cultural Assets, its direction of art galleries Collage Habana, the gallery 23 and 12 and the Brazilian Sacatar Art Institute.
