The National Arts Foundation – Funarte recognizes the trajectory and mourns the death of the writer and former president of the Foundation, Ziraldo, which occurred this Saturday (6), in Rio de Janeiro.

Born on April 6, 1932, in Rio de Janeiro, Ziraldo Alves Pinto was the creator of famous characters such as “O Menino Maluquinho” and “Turma do Perecê”.

Cartoonist, cartoonist, painter, writer, playwright, posterist, caricaturist, poet, chronicler, designer, presenter, humorist, manager and Brazilian journalist, Ziraldo was one of the best-known and acclaimed children's writers in Brazil and presided over the National Arts Foundation during the year 1985.

“The multi-artist, cartoonist, caricaturist, journalist and president of Funarte in 1985, Ziraldo, was enchanted. From the Quibbler to the crazy boy, Ziraldo is one of the composers of a country's imagery and inscribes his insurgent art and humor in defense of a democratic Brazil. Hail Ziraldo!” , highlighted the president of Funarte, Maria Marighella.

An insurgent, Ziraldo founded Pasquim

During the civil-military dictatorship, in response to the institutional act AI-5,
He joined other journalists and cartoonists such as Jaguar (Sérgio de Magalhães Gomes Jaguaribe), Henfil (Henrique de Souza Filho) and Millôr Fernandes to found the periodical O Pasquim.

With humor, loose and provocative language during the regime's buckshot years, the publication dictated trends in journalism and became a sales phenomenon, which resulted in the arrest of almost the entire tabloid team, including Ziraldo.

In 1960 he received the International “Nobel” for Humor at the 32nd International Caricature Salon in Brussels and also the Merghantealler prize, the main award for the free press in Latin America.

In 1980, his biggest success was born: O Menino Maluquinho. The work was also adapted for television and cinema. Ziraldo's crazy boy competed for and won the Jabuti Literature Prize in 1980.
