There are 61 pieces, including oil paintings, sculptures and lithographs, that offer a reinterpretation of national art, says Ramón AvendañoNovember 07, 2024 at 6:15 p.m. GMT-6There are 61 pieces, including oil paintings, sculptures and lithographs, that make up the permanent exhibition of the “Mexican art of the 19th century” room at the National Museum of Art.
In this reinterpretation, you can find some reference pieces, which had already been in these rooms before, as well as pieces that had been exhibited little or never before: the cover of a book called “Mexico and its surroundings”, with illustrations by Casimiro Castro; a sketch of a mural painting that José Salomé Pina made for the Collegiate church of Guadalupe, are some novelties.
During the tour, some pieces stand out, such as “El suplicio de Cuauhtémoc” by Leandro Izaguirre, which was in the history books of the SEP and which the curator himself considers to be references with which generations learned the history of Mexico. Also to be found are works by Félix Parra, Luis Monroy, Cayetano Padilla, José Salomé Pina, José María Obregón.
