The Fury of the Book returns to Estación Mapocho and consolidates itself as one of the longest-running fairs in the country
With 15 years of history and resounding growth over time, La Furia del Libro returns for the second time to the Estación Mapocho Cultural Center with a large number of activities around books and reading. Between Thursday, May 30 and Sunday, June 2, you can visit this classic meeting about independent and university publishing and access will be completely free.
For this version, more than 270 national and international publishers will arrive with an immense variety of books for all types of readers, becoming an unmissable panorama, which in 2023 brought together more than 60 thousand people in this emblematic place in the center of the capital. This year it will feature guest authors and more than 100 activities in three settings with simultaneous cultural programming.
Fiction books, poetry, children's and youth literature, essays, comics, experimental publications, illustration, visual arts, architecture, among others, are the genres that different readers will be able to find at this fair. It will be an opportunity for attendees to learn about the latest news in the voice of their own authors or editors, who will attend the inns, sign books and participate in the cultural programming activities. Among the activities of the cultural program, the inauguration stands out, which will take place on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. and will feature the participation of the artist and National Fine Arts Award winner, Cecilia Vicuña.
“This second version of The Fury of the Book at Estación Mapocho fills us with joy, due to the growing interest of national and international publishers in participating and of the attending public, which last year exceeded 60 thousand. We are celebrating 15 years since the first version where we started with 18 editorials in a restaurant room, with no other ambitions than to make ourselves known. It is really exciting to see how publishers and authors have achieved the desired visibility and, above all, how readers have found in independent publishing a meeting space, a pleasure for reading and entertainment, all thanks to a collaborative work whose "The main purpose is to bring good literature to people," says Simón Ergas, director of La Furia del Libro.
This event will be the opportunity to buy books from 50 foreign labels from Argentina (La Cebra, Hwarang Editorial, Chai Editora, Editorial Godot, Ampersand, Fiordo, Tinta Limón, Cactus, Caja negra, Cueco de plata, among others), Peru ( Ediciones Deformes, Alastor Editores, Fiesta Pagana), Colombia (Cataplúm), Mexico (Posdata Editores, Editorial Universitaria UANL, Bajo Tierra Ediciones, Nocturna) and Spain (Sexto Piso, Libros del K.O., Alba Editorial, Abada Editores, Zahorí Books, among others). Meanwhile, 60 regional publishers will participate, such as Narrativa Punto Apart, Vísceras Editorial and Imbunche Ediciones, as well as collective inns from other emerging labels that will be attended by relevant actors from the regions of Tarapacá, Coquimbo, Valparaíso, La Araucanía, Los Ríos and Los Lagos, whose stay in Santiago is managed by La Furia del Libro, in a bid to promote the bibliodiversity of the fair.
Thanks to the sponsorship of the PICE program of Acción Cultural Española AC/E, the writers Carlos Pardo, . Tilsa Otta (Peru) and Isabel Zapata will also be in Chile, with the support of the REM, Writers' Residence of MALBA (Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires).
