Amazonian indigenous art at Latin American fair

Pinta Miami 2024: Amazonian indigenous art stands out at prestigious Latin American fair
They raised the bar for Peruvian art. The 2024 edition of Pinta Miami had as its main attraction the presentation of the project “Painting the Beings of the Forest”, an exhibition that brought together the works of prominent Shipibo-Konibo artists from the Ucayali region, in the Peruvian Amazon. This group of creators currently live in Cantagallo (Lima) and are the largest urban indigenous community in Peru.

In their paintings, the artists of the Shipibo-Konibo people integrate community knowledge about the relationships and exchanges between humans and spiritual beings, as well as knowledge about the geometric designs of the kené and its history, patterns that refer to the encounters between plants, humans, animals and their relationships in balance with rivers, forests and their protective spirits.

Likewise, in their works, the artists transform traditional knowledge and update it to account for their migration experiences, affirm criticism of global environmental problems, the devastation of the Amazon, and the need to protect Amazonian ecosystems.

THE LATIN AMERICAN ART FAIR

Pinta Miami celebrated its successful 2024 edition from December 5 to 8 at The Hangar, Coconut Grove, with the participation of more than 16,500 visitors, 45 galleries, and representatives from 14 countries. The fair consolidated its position as a leading platform for contemporary Ibero-American art.
Thanks to the support of its main sponsor, EFG Wealth Management, and the strong presence of Latin American galleries and artists, Pinta Miami reaffirmed its mission of making the artistic practices of the region visible, positioning itself as a key event during Miami Art Week.
