16 Catalan galleries will participate in the ARCO 2025 fair in Madrid
This year's edition of the fair has the Amazon as its central theme
A total of 16 Catalan galleries will participate in the general programme of the 49th ARCOmadrid International Contemporary Art Fair, which will be held from 5 to 9 March at Ifema Madrid in an edition with the Amazon as its central theme, explained this Friday at the Fundació Miró in Barcelona the director of the fair, Maribel López, and the member of the organizing committee Joana Roda.
The 2025 edition of the contemporary art fair will have 214 galleries from 36 countries in its general programme, nine more rooms than in the previous edition, and López has highlighted their "quality".
López stressed that the theme of the Amazon as a guiding thread is to play with the metaphor of water as a "connector" through art and has stated that it is an investigation that was already started in previous editions.
The Catalan galleries that are part of the general programme are Adn Galeria, Àngels Barcelona, Bombon Projects, Chiquita Room --which has moved from the 'Opening' to the general programme--, etHall, Galeria Alegría, House of Chappaz, Marc Domènech, Mayoral, Miguel Marcos, Polígrafa Obra Gràfica, Prats Nogueras Blanchard, Projectesd, RocioSantaCruz, Senda and Zielinsky, and Florit/Florit, based in Palma de Mallorca and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona), will also participate.
ARCOmadrid will feature 32 artist projects, presented by 32 galleries, including Aldo Urbano (Bombon Projects), Hessie (Marc Domènech), Alicia Vogel (Mayoral), Ana Mendieta (Prats Nogueras Blanchard), Javier Inés (RocioSantaCruz) and Xavi Bou (Senda), and the Barcelona architecture studio Mesura will be responsible for the design of the fair's Guest Lounge.
The Artist Book and Contemporary Publishing Fair ArtsLibris, which is celebrating its tenth edition at ARCO, will bring together more than 80 publishers, authors, creators and booksellers from 20 countries, with Catalan presence from Arcadia, Blueproject Foundation, Bonart, Fabra i Coats, Senda, Barcelona City Council, La Virreina and Macba, among others.
ARCOmadrid will also host the participation of Artika, Banco Mediolanum, Fundació Miró and Fundació Vila Casas, and the director of the Museu Tàpies, Imma Prieto, the director of the Fundació Miró, Marko Daniel, and the artists Ignasi Aballí and David Bestué, among others, will participate in the professional meetings.
Curated programmes
Among the curated programmes are 'Wametisé: ideas for an amazofuturism', with 15 galleries from six countries, which will reflect on new models of creation that represent hybrid existences between human, vegetal, physical and metaphysical bodies.
There is also 'Opening. New galleries', with 18 galleries from 13 countries with a history of a maximum of seven years, with the aim of providing new talents, and 'Perfiles Latin American Art', with 10 galleries from seven countries that will allow exploring collaboration with Latin American galleries.
