This film event was held for the first time in December 1979 and since then it has become a paradigm of cinematography made from the global South, a space where audiovisual art and film criticism meet.

Cuban and internationally renowned filmmakers meet at the event. In addition to participating in the event, they debate the challenges of cinema today.

From its inception, its objective was “to promote the regular meeting of Latin American filmmakers who, with their work, enrich the artistic culture of our countries… to ensure the joint presentation of fiction films, documentaries, cartoons and current events… and to contribute to the international dissemination and circulation of the main and most significant achievements of our cinematographies.”
