Paraná and Pompidou advance in the creation of a unique museum in America
The agenda of the delegation from Paraná includes meetings, workshops and technical visits with several teams from the French cultural center
This week marks another important stage in the creation of a museum in Foz do Iguaçu, in the west of Paraná, in partnership with the Centre Pompidou, in France.
A technical team from the State Secretariat for Culture of Paraná (SEEC) is in Paris to make progress on the project to implement the Foz do Iguaçu International Art Museum, in partnership with the Centre.
The delegation arrived in the capital of France this Monday (10) for an initiative that represents a historic milestone, as it is moving towards the state becoming the first satellite of the renowned French cultural center in the entire American continent.
The agenda of the delegation from Paraná includes meetings, workshops and technical visits with several teams from Pompidou, involving 36 people from different sectors of activity in France to exchange experiences, planning and design guidelines for the new museum to be built in Foz do Iguaçu. During the meetings, the organizational chart of the French institution will be presented and fundamental aspects for the creation of the space will be discussed, such as exhibition programming, education, collection and management of the new museum.
The mission takes place at a symbolic moment, since 2025 marks the Year of Brazil in France and the Year of France in Brazil. “The partnership between the Government of Paraná and the Centre Pompidou reaffirms Paraná's commitment to diplomacy and innovation and will be highlighted in the program celebrating bilateral relations between Brazil and France, marking a powerful and exciting beginning of this long-term partnership,” highlights the State Secretary of Culture, Luciana Casagrande Pereira.
In addition to its importance in the diplomatic calendar, the progress in the museum's completion comes in a key year for the Centre Pompidou in Paris, which is preparing for a major renovation process and will be closed to the public for the next 5 years. This Monday was the last day of open visits to the public in the permanent exhibition rooms, with a lot of people moving around all day, who came to visit or revisit for the last time before the reopening, scheduled for 2030.
A KEY MOMENT – Laurent Le Bon, president of the Centre Pompidou, emphasizes that the presence of the French institution in Paraná is part of this key moment for the Pompidou during the closing phase for the renovation in Paris.
“During this period of metamorphosis of the Pompidou, we will be even more present in Brazil and Paraná. It will be a crucial moment for all of us. We are very happy with this project,” she says. For Alice Chamblas, head of international development at the Centre Pompidou, Paraná has a very rich cultural landscape, especially in Curitiba. “But we understand that the State Government wants to balance this landscape, strengthening culture in other regions, and the Foz do Iguaçu International Art Museum project is exactly what this is all about,” he says.
