Gibara International Low-Fat Film Festival 2025: A Community Celebration of Art and Film
The 2025 edition of the Gibara International Low-Fat Film Festival was held from April 15 to 19, with notable community participation and a diverse artistic and film program. This time, the event reinforced its inclusive and pluralistic nature, with a clear focus on community and the multiplicity of artistic expressions.
For five days, Gibara audiences were able to enjoy film screenings in various venues throughout the city, meetings with filmmakers, tributes, exhibitions, concerts, workshops, and activities for children and adolescents. As in previous editions, the festival was characterized by its open and participatory spirit, which allowed for exchanges between filmmakers, artists, and the public.
At the closing ceremony, the Lucía Awards were presented, recognizing the best of the official competition. In addition, collateral prizes and special mentions were awarded to works that stood out for their quality and commitment.
Beyond the screenings, the artistic program included a wide variety of cultural expressions. Spaces such as Casa Gitana, which offered creative activities for children, and Horizonti, dedicated to contemporary art, reflected the festival's focus on integrating diverse audiences and languages.
The event paid tribute to figures in Cuban and Latin American cinema and offered a space for dialogue and reflection on the current challenges facing independent and community cinema.
With this edition, the Gibara Low-Fat Film Festival reaffirmed its mission to be a meeting point for culture, film, and the community, remaining faithful to its original spirit of openness and creative resilience.
