The 36-year-old illustrator from Santa Catarina, Camila Rosa, is responsible for the cover of the 100th anniversary edition of the North American magazine The New Yorker, one of the most prestigious publications in the world. The drawing by the artist, born in Joinville, can already be seen circulating on the streets of New York.

The traditional magazine, which celebrates its centennial on February 21, 2025, maintains the tradition of reinventing its iconic mascot, Eustace Tilley, with each commemorative edition. Created by art editor Rea Irvin in 1925, the character — a gentleman in a top hat and monocle — has been reinterpreted by different artists since 1994. This time, Camila had the opportunity to give her own version of the illustration.

Currently living in the United States, the artist told NSC Total that her journey to the cover of The New Yorker began in 2023, when she was invited to create a draft for the magazine's 98th anniversary edition. The project, however, did not move forward at the time. In 2024, Camila decided to try again and sent a new email reinforcing her interest. Four months later, she received an invitation to finish her art.

"I was in Joinville spending Christmas with my family when I got the reply," she said in an interview with NSC Total. "It all happened very quickly, I had to race against time to deliver the finished work. When I returned to the US, they confirmed that the illustration would appear on the cover. It was a moment of great happiness, because this magazine has a huge impact on any illustrator," she revealed.

For the historic edition, Camila redesigned Eustace as a Latin American woman. Her goal was to represent the diversity of Latin America, bringing a female character with features and colors that reflect this identity.

"I wanted to highlight the female presence and diversity. It is very important to have a Latin woman on the cover of one of the most respected magazines in the world," explained the artist, who has collaborated with brands such as Nike and Itaú.
