Bitbang, the outstanding International Animation Festival of Latin America, celebrates its tenth edition from October 28 to November 3 in the City of Buenos Aires. This event, which has become the first in the country to qualify for the Oscars, will take place in nine venues in the city, including the Gaumont Cinema, the Libertad Palace, the Da Vinci School, the San Martín Cultural Center, the Borges Cultural Center, Deseo, La Paz Arriba, Festival Bar and Club Lucero.
The festival's programming includes a wide range of activities, such as animation competitions, talks, screenings and workshops such as “Entre una ceja y un piano”, directed by Estefanía Clotti, and an “Intensive course on acting and writing” led by Gadiel Sztryk and Andrés Caminos. There will also be a space for advice and mentoring through different calls.
Students, graduates and artists with experience in traditional 2D animation (cel animation) submitted their portfolios to receive advice from Camping Club. In addition, animators, illustrators, designers and animation creatives presented their portfolios to be evaluated by the Motion Principles team, who will offer 15-minute advisory interviews.
There will also be a call for the Dialogue Roundtable for Independent Content Creators, where Argentine microseries or short projects that are finished or in advanced production, aimed at young people and adults (18-35 years old), will be accepted. Those selected will receive feedback from Flixxo during the festival.
Finally, the first Bitbang graphic fair will be held, a space for projects, artists and collectives to show their creations to the public.
Bárbara Cerro, Artistic Director of the festival, said: “Being a qualifying festival for the Oscars is a huge recognition not only for the commitment of our team and for the artistic vision that we have cultivated at Bitbang over the last decade, but also for Latin American animation. This achievement highlights the growth, creativity and impact that our region has on the industry worldwide. Being able to provide a platform that promotes local and international talent every year and give a short film the possibility of competing for an Oscar is a huge pride. I am convinced that this step will give more visibility and further strengthen animation in Argentina and throughout Latin America, opening doors and opportunities for our stories and our creators.”
This year, the classic final party will be held on November 1 at Deseo (Av. Chorrarín 1040, CABA). The evening will feature a live performance by Ibiza Pareo, as well as the duos E110101 (Dj Set), Varese (Live Set) and Dan Oiuw (Live Set), along with Ana Hagen (Dj Set) and Charla (Dj Set). There will also be visuals, art installations and more surprises.
The festival will feature national and international speakers who will offer various activities. Emmy-winning director Benjy Brooke (USA) will give a talk on October 30th in the Sala Argentina del Palacio Libertad (formerly CCK) and his works will be screened on October 29th in the Sala Leonardo Favio del Cine Gaumont and on October 31st at the Da Vinci School. Also on November 1st, illustrator Alex Gamsu Jenkins (USA) will invite the public to explore his unique universe at the Da Vinci School, and Julia Conde (ARG) will offer a Master Class on Direction and Mixed Media.
