A year after his death, Fernando Botero will lead an art auction
Precisely on the anniversary of his death, the outstanding Colombian artist will be the big star of the Christie's auction.
On September 15th, the first anniversary of the death of Fernando Botero, one of the most outstanding Latin American artists of all time, was celebrated. However, the Colombian is still absolutely present.
Now, Botero, who died in Monte Carlo at the age of 91, will be the big star of a Latin American art auction, something that speaks clearly of the legacy left by the man born in the Colombian city of Medellín.
Christie's will auction, next October, thirteen works by Botero, among which stands out "Hunter", a painting from 1982 that will be put up for sale with an estimated price of between 800,000 and 1.2 million dollars.
This painting, which will be auctioned in New York, United States, is a reinterpretation of a work of the same name by Diego Velázquez. It is the most expensive piece at the auction, which will be held, more precisely, on October 2.
In this version of "Hunter," Botero reimagines the Philip IV that Velázquez portrayed in 1633 as a contemporary Latin American infantry soldier, with a red scarf around his neck and a bandolier at his waist.
At the same time, "Woman Standing in a Bedroom" catapults itself as the second most expensive piece at auction, with an estimated price of between $600,000 and $800,000. This painting portrays the figure of a naked woman with a cross hanging on her chest.
It is no small detail that Botero is known for his sculptures of voluptuous figures. Meanwhile, Christie's will also put five small sculptures on sale, including "Reclining Nude", "Eve", "Still Life with Onions" and "Kitchen Table".
