BACKGROUND:
2024 is the Year of ASEAN-China People-to-People Exchange. The two sides plan to hold
more than 100 related acƟviƟes throughout the year, including youth, tourism, media, educaƟon,
art, and sports.
This inspired China Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia to collaborate with Bentara Budaya
Jakarta (Kompas Gramedia Group) and HOCA (House Of Cartoon maniA) to organize an event in
the field of visual arts, especially cartoons and comics to strengthen the relaƟonship between
Chinese and ASEAN communiƟes.
Cartoons/comics as a universal language are easily understood by people more than textual
works. Cartoon art is also the most popular visual style in the world. So cartoons/comics can be
used as a means or bridge to understand each other and strengthen relaƟonships between people
of different ethniciƟes, cultures, languages, beliefs and countries.
There is a family story in Bali, Indonesia. According to history, during the reign of King
Jayapangus Harkajalancana (1181-1269 A.D.), King Jayapangus married a Chinese girl named Kang
Cing We, who brought advanced culture and technology to the region.King Jayapangus's palace
was located in the area of today's Kintamani, Bangli regency. King Jayapangus' palace at Kintamani
in present day Bangli district. The palace was converted into the Pura Dalem Balingkang temple,
where people pray for good luck.
Contestants are expected to explore other stories in their region or country according to
their own creaƟvity. However, works are not limited to reality, ficƟon/fantasy stories are also
allowed as long as they comply with the applicable requirements. It is hoped that this contest
and exhibiƟon will further grow togetherness and mutual understanding between Chinese and
ASEAN communiƟes and enhance cooperaƟon between communiƟes in various fields.
