Gerhard Gepp was born in 1940 on the western edge of Vienna, in Pressbaum, where he still lives and works. He is a self-taught illustrator, cartoonist, painter and graphic designer. His initial training was started in “Offset”. Between 1964 and 1976 he worked as a graphic designer and illustrator. He received awards for various works, such as the "Poster Prize" from the city of Vienna and the "Rizzoli-Preis" from Milan. His first publications were published in various professional journals in Germany and Switzerland. At the same time, Gepp worked on advertising photography and organized his own exhibition at the Viennese gallery "Die Brücke". In 1976 he also began making hand-colored prints. Since 1976 he worked on drawings, gouacheas and oil paintings that were exhibited in Vienna at the “BAWAG” Foundation. Further exhibitions followed in Austria and Germany and at art fairs in Basel, Cologne and Ghent. Since 1989, his illustrations have increasingly focused on "political satire". Working with acrylic on cardboard and/or canvas he has continued to receive awards at exhibitions. His illustrations frequently appear in German and international publications. In 2001, Gepp received the title of “professional teacher”. He has also had numerous contracts with the written press. These include newspapers such as “Der Standard”, “Die Presse” and “Wiener Zeitung” in Austria, as well as “ Süddeutsche Zeitung” and “Die Zeit” in Germany. Magazine deals have included the Austrian business monthly “Trend”, the popular German psychology monthly “Psychologie Heute” (Psychology Today) and the Swiss satirical monthly “Nebelspalter” (literally "Fog Knife"). In addition, Gepp produced numerous illustrations and title images for the "Wiener Journal", founded in 1980 by Jörg Mauthe - and sold in 2004 to the Wiener Zeitung-.
