In the city of Leskovac on May 5, 2010, after a long illness, Miodrag Velickovic, the best-known caricaturist of his hometown and one of the best in Serbia, technical illustrator and veteran editor of the weekly “Nasa rec” (Our Word), died. ). Velickovic stated that the first caricature of him published in the Hungarian newsletter “Mladost” forty years ago and until now in numerous magazines, more than 41,000 caricatures have emerged with his signature. He won sixty national and international awards in prestigious cartoon competitions, including the Grand Prize at the 21st “Nasreddin Hodja” International Cartoon Competition in 2001 in Istanbul, Turkey, and also won the prestigious “Pjer” award. He was a member of several international juries in the country and abroad. He held 14 individual and group exhibitions in the country and abroad and illustrated about thirty books by well-known Serbian writers. Miodrag won a total of 104 national and international awards. Velickovic did not hide that there was once self-censorship, especially during Tito's Yugoslavia: “My most successful year was in 1996, when I was among the ten best cartoonists in the world ranked elsewhere. Then I won eight first prizes, two in the country and six abroad. This is enough to live on.” He was awarded the Serbian Gold Badge and the Leskovac October Prison Prize. The burial of Miodrag Velickovic's remains took place at the Spitaljskom cemetery in Leskovac.
