Daniel Murphy was a caricaturista who worked primarily in Portland, Oregon, and Denver, and his cartoons appeared in newspapers there and in Chicago, San Francisco, and other cities. The Harry Daniel Murphy Cartoon Collection consists primarily of 101 original drawings of “Murphy’s” political cartoons for the “Chicago Herald & Examiner,” as well as three albums containing newspaper and magazine clippings of his cartoons, caricatures of others artists and articles about Murphy as a cartoonist, two photo albums with photos probably taken on family vacations in Europe, Southern California, Canada and New England in the 1920s, and 13 tablets containing pencil sketches and notes.
