Ilya Yefimovich Repin was a Ukrainian-born Russian painter, recognized as one of the most famous artists in Russia during the 19th century. His notable works include “Barge Haulers on the Volga” (1873), “Religious Procession in Kursk Province” (1880–1883), and “Reply of the Zaporozhian Cossacks” (1880–1891). Repin was known for his powerful and dramatic historical subjects, as well as his revealing portraits of prominent Russian figures of his time.
